Brian Babcock brings a focussed intensity to each file, seeking practical solutions to his clients’ dispute resolution and risk management needs. Brian has successfully practiced personal injury and commercial litigation, including employment law, municipal law and construction claims for over twenty years. He has substantial experience in risk management, environmental issues and insurance claims.
Brian’s clients range from entrepreneurial owner-operated businesses to multinational corporations. He is particularly adept at advising clients on planning to lessen exposure to lawsuits. Brian shifts easily between advising on shareholder disputes, contract interpretation, wrongful dismissal, asset recovery and debt collection.
Brian has a keen understanding of the business consequences of legal decision, based on many years of working closely with clients. Brian provides clients with straightforward and understandable risk assessments and advice at the beginning of each file, planning upfront and controlling the process to avoid surprises.
Brian can be relied upon for quick and insightful legal opinions, providing businesses with fresh perspectives on the legal implications of business decisions. He is a contributor to Thunder Bay Business providing succinct and timely articles on the changing law, and issues that may impact the business community.
Brian has appeared before all levels of Ontario courts, including the Court of Appeal. In today's complex litigation arena, clients value both his ability in court and his ability to find solutions that avoid the necessity of going to court.
A graduate of Queen's University Law School, Brian was called to the Ontario Bar in 1982. Brian believes in staying fresh on the law and constantly updates his skills as a litigator. Brian is a frequent presenter at continuing legal education seminars.
Brian belongs to the Advocates Society, and was Chair for the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce. In 2009, he was recognized by the Thunder Bay Law Association for his service to the community. Currently he serves on the Waterfront Development Committee, and actively fundraises for the George Jeffrey Children's Foundation.
