Fhara Pottinger

Fhara Pottinger’s sharp legal mind, combined with a strong work ethic, equals success as both an advocate and a negotiator. Known by her colleagues for her energy, sense of humour and willingness to undertake a challenge, Fhara has proven to be an excellent addition to the firm.

Fhara originally comes from Vancouver Island, British Columbia, but her adventurous spirit has taken her to a number of places across Canada, and she has lived in New Brunswick, Quebec, Manitoba and Alberta.

Fhara is a 2002 graduate of the University of New Brunswick Law School. She spent two years in Bosnia and Herzegovina, participating in the extensive reformation of the country’s systems of governance and law. While there she worked with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Aside from gaining a true appreciation for the values of the rule of law and negotiation, Fhara also came away with a little bit of the local language and many dear friends.

In 2006, she moved to Thunder Bay and joined Weilers as an articling student. Fhara was called to the bar in June 2007 and is now an Associate Lawyer at Weilers, with her practice focusing primarily in the areas of Wills & Estates, (including Estate Litigation), Family, Corporate & Commercial, as well as Immigration law. She has taken the helm on the Saturday morning Wills Clinic, a project commenced by Deborah Humphreys. Her little dog, Lulu, frequently joins her on Saturday mornings and has been unofficially dubbed the Wills Clinic mascot. She has also recently completed training in Collaborative Family Law.

Weilers was pleased to note that Fhara bought her first home here in Thunder Bay, and Lulu is thrilled with her new yard. Fhara is also the Chair of the Board of CAHEP, the Community of Arts & Heritage Education Program, and a strong supporter of the Northern Ontario Cancer Research Fund.
