Jennifer Lohuis

As a former NCAA athlete, Jennifer brings competitiveness, confidence and team spirit to her work at Weilers. Her ability to adapt and maintain her composure in stressful situations is usually found only in battle-tested lawyers.
Originally hailing from Dorchester, Ontario, she obtained her B.A. from Kentucky State University on a full fastball scholarship in 2006, and graduated from the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law in 2009. Jennifer enjoyed articles split between The City of Thunder Bay and Weilers. This experience, different from typical articles, allowed Jennifer to gain an unusually wide range of exposure to different working environments and mentors. She drafted opinions for City reports; prosecuted bylaw matters and provincial offences; drafted court documents and worked closely with Weilers’ Labour and Employment Law Group on ground breaking labour issues - important skills necessary for her emerging labour and employment law practice.
Jennifer’s practice focuses on the areas of Labour Relations and Employment Law, Civil Litigation and Municipal Law. Jennifer’s depth of current Municipal Law experience adds to Weilers’ strength in this growing area of practice. Her comfort and command in the courtroom makes her an ideal choice to represent clients who need a lawyer for Provincial Offences, Small Claims, Simplified Rules and similar matters. Her drafting and research skills will benefit both the clients and senior counsel she works with as she adds to her experience.
Jennifer has quickly embraced everything that Thunder Bay has to offer. Jennifer and her two rescue dogs enjoy exploring the many hiking trails around the city. She has become heavily involved with the Thunder Bay Women’s Hockey Association and coaching with the Thunder Bay Girls Softball Association. Jennifer also volunteers her time as a member of the P.R.O. Kids Fundraising Committee, and was recently elected as a Director of the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce for a 3-year term.
