Last Saturday's 14th Annual Charity Yard Sale was a huge success. The proceeds from this year's event are being dedicated to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre's Northern Cancer Fund in support of breast cancer research.

The event, our largest Yard Sale yet, was made possible by the donations from Cambrian players, Weilers staff, as well as from various members of the community of Thunder Bay. The unprecedented community support, due in large part to the support of local radio, newspaper and television coverage; was so encouraging that McKevitt Trucking generously offered the use of a full-sized trailer to assist with storage.

Along with the huge selection of treasures, Metro grocery store on River Street donated hundreds of cans of pop, buns, wieners and condiments for a welcome warm barbeque on such a cool early-summer's day.

Additionally, Weilers staff baked 25 strawberry and rhubarb pies, all of which sold before the last one was taken out of the truck!

Despite the chilly weather and strong winds, the event was a complete success with whatever few items left over being donated to the Diabetes Association.

imageIn total, Weilers raised $1,704.37.

On Friday, June 5th, 2009, Leon Bullock, Event Co-Ordinator, presented a cheque to Michael Pedri at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Thank you to all who supported this event with their many donations: Metro (River Street), McKevitt Trucking, UPS Store 96, The Chronicle-Journal, Newcap Radio, Dougall Media, Cambrian Players, and the staff at Weilers, not to mention all those individuals who donated a truckload of items!
