One of our lawyers, Brad Smith , provided a presentation for Volunteer Thunder Bay! on "Bill 168: Violence and Harassment in the Workplace" on Thursday, June 16, 2010. The seminar was well attended and well received.
Bill 168 amends the Occupational Health and Safety Act by defining workplace harassment and workplace violence and imposing duties upon employers, supervisors and workers. An employer shall have a policy for workplace violence and workplace harassment, conduct an assessment of workplace violence, and have a program to implement and train workers. A breach of the Occupational Health and Safety Act could lead to substantial fines and imprisonment.
Bill 168 came into effect on June 15, 2010.
