Managing Partner
Paralleling Weilers’ longstanding commitment to the community, Shelley’s own history with the firm began as a student, 10 years prior to her call to the bar in 1999. Since then, Shelley has practiced with Weilers as an associate in the Labour and Employment Law Group , joining the partnership in August 2005. Shelley has an established labour relations and employment law practice with a particular emphasis and interest in human rights matters. Through advice, representation and education, Shelley serves unionized and non-unionized, public and private, and provincial and federal employers throughout Ontario.
Appearing on behalf of clients before the court, mediation, arbitration, and negotiations as well as a number of statutory and regulatory boards, tribunals and panels, Shelley has dealt with an extensive range of issues including employee management and performance, compensation and severance claims, contract interpretation, management rights, harassment and discrimination and union decertification. Employers value and appreciate Shelley’s approachable nature and her extensive and insightful advocacy, research and investigative skills, which provide them with thorough, practical and economical results - on time.
An avid year-round outdoor enthusiast and adventure-seeker in her free time (no pun intended), Shelley has been known to tackle Northwestern Ontario’s lakes, trails and rivers with the same fervour she has for her clients. Shelley also is a member of the Thunder Bay Business Women’s Network, Advocates’ Society, Ontario Forest Business Association, Kakabeka Falls Curling Club, serves as a Director on the Alumni Association of Lakehead University Board, continues to author and co-author editorials to legal, area and firm publications and participates in related presentations and workshops locally and throughout Northwestern Ontario.
Shelley received her B.A. in political studies from Lakehead University (1994) and her LL.B from the University of Windsor (1997).
