Weiler, Maloney, Nelson has had a proud tradition of giving back to the community through corporate sponsorships and donations, and our enthusiastic participation in local charitable events.
Some of the recent fundraisers we have participated in include the Big Bike in support of Heart and Stroke, George Jeffrey Children’s Foundation Annual Soapbox races, Canadian Cancer Society's Hope and Memory Garden (adjacent to Balmoral Commons), Children's Aid Society of Thunder Bay's Quiz Night, Canadian Mental Health Association and the Children's Centre Thunder Bay's Style & Smiles, and the annual Howard Ball in support of the John Howard Society of Thunder Bay and District. Every year, we earmark funds to show our support for local and provincial Aboriginal organizations and initiatives, most recently Fort William First Nation’s Annual Pow Wow and Chiefs of Ontario’s Education Symposium, and have supported film festivals, golf tournaments, Aboriginal Directories and Summer Festivals in the past.
The partners have contributed generously to — among many other causes — Lakehead University’s ATAC building, Confederation College’s REACH building, the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation "Care Beyond Compare" Campaign, St. Joseph’s Care Group and a bursary for students at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM).
Several Weilers lawyers have enjoyed playing roles in Magnus Theatre productions, and many lawyers and staff participate in annual bowling and golf tournaments together. During the holiday season, our lawyers and staff jointly contribute gifts to several local charities in lieu of a gift exchange.
During our tenure, Weilers has received many awards, including:
- The Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Award for Large Businesses
- The Chamber of Commerce “Quality of Life” Award
- The United Way Gold Participation Award
- The Shelter House “Most Money Raised” Award, and
- The Dragon Boat Spirit Award
